FPL GW5 Captain Picks: Haaland or Isak?
17 September 2026
FPL Demon

Sunderland at the Etihad. Foden banned. Isak off to the south coast with the line all to himself. Short week, short list.
1. Erling Haaland (Man City, FWD)
Sunderland (H).
15 shots in the box, 7 big chances and 3.34 expected goals already. City make more big chances than anyone, and the bookies give Sunderland about an 11% chance of a clean sheet. Five conceded in four games says even that's generous.
Demon's Verdict: Home, in form, against a leaky defence. Don't overthink it.
2. Alexander Isak (Liverpool, FWD)

Bournemouth (A).
Three goals in two games before he blanked against Fulham. With Ekitiké injured, the line is his. No rotation worries.
Demon's Verdict: The forward nobody is captaining. One goal on the south coast and you're flying.
3. Antoine Semenyo (Man City, MID)

Sunderland (H).
Foden starts a three-match ban for his derby red, and somebody has to fill that hole. Semenyo sat on the bench midweek, which tells you he's being kept fresh for Sunday.
Demon's Verdict: Same fixture as Haaland, without the crowd. Want to be different and still be in the right game? Here's your man.
4. Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd, MID)
Fulham (A).
United are taking more shots in the box than anyone, 46 so far, and Bruno is in the middle of all of it: 2.29 expected goals, 3 big chances, 6 shots in the box.
Demon's Verdict: Away from home knocks him down a peg. Still the heartbeat of the league's busiest attack.
5. Cole Palmer (Chelsea, MID)

Brentford (A), Friday night.
5 points against Hull while Pedro took 12. Palmer hasn't been the one finishing Chelsea's chances, which is why he's fifth. But it's Brentford under the lights, and players this good don't stay quiet for long.
Demon's Verdict: The punt. Only if you fancy going against your whole league.
Demon's Final Word
Haaland is the armband. Isak is the one nobody's on. Semenyo is the brave one in the City game. The Demon is captaining Erling Haaland.
Good luck.
