Belloumi's Brace Outscored João Pedro's Goal and Assist

13 September 2026

João Pedro cooked with a goal and an assist. A £5.0m Hull midfielder cooked harder. Belloumi's brace out-hauled a £7.8m Chelsea forward, and that's the entire budget-vs-premium argument settled in ninety minutes at Stamford Bridge. In this guide: four goals, four creators, and whether Chelsea's front three are still worth trusting before Brentford away.

  • Belloumi: 13 points, both Hull goals inside a seven-minute spell either side of the half-hour. Absolute mugging.
  • João Pedro: 12 points, a goal and an assist for Chelsea.
  • Rogers and Palmer combined for a goal and two assists between them, and it still wasn't enough to win it.
  • Chelsea led 1-0, then 2-1, and still only drew at home. Concerning.
  • Next: Chelsea away at Brentford, Hull at home to Newcastle. Neither fixture screams clean sheet.

Two headline attackers, one very different price tag

Rogers opened it in the 7th minute, teed up by João Pedro. Belloumi levelled it in the 28th off Giles, then put Hull ahead six minutes later with McBurnie's help. João Pedro restored parity in the 66th, finished off a Palmer pass. Four goals, four assists, not a single set piece among them. End-to-end stuff.

João Pedro's goal and assist made him Chelsea's top scorer on the day at 12 points. Belloumi's brace, from a player worth a third of the price, beat him anyway. That's the whole case for shopping outside the big names right there: get the game state right and a well-priced midfielder can out-return a £7.8m forward without doing anything more spectacular.

Chelsea's defence had a much quieter time of it: no clean sheet, nothing worth chasing, James's 5.02 expected points cashing out as a single appearance point. When your forwards are trading goals with the opposition all afternoon, your back four was never getting a look-in regardless of the underlying numbers.

Chelsea dominated the ball. Hull matched them on quality

Hull out-xG'd Chelsea with a third of the possession. Four big chances on the counter, three missed, and this could easily have gone Hull's way instead of a share of the spoils. Thirty-eight touches in the box looks like dominance on paper; the finishing didn't match the territory.

Chelsea's shots on target carried more quality than Hull's despite the lower raw xG. Two well-organised attacks sharing the points, and the underlying numbers say expect the same script next time these profiles meet: goals at both ends, clean sheets at neither.

Rogers and Palmer: watch the goal threat, not just the assists

Palmer's 6.72 expected points against a five-point return is the week's biggest underperformance among the front three. He made the second goal but didn't add a return himself, and at £9.7m that gap stings more than it does for a cheaper option. Rogers had his day with the goal; watch whether he keeps finding the same pockets against Brentford.

Giles and McBurnie both grabbed assists without threatening a goal of their own. Neither is worth chasing off one game; the fixture and the starting spot matter far more than a single assist.

Brentford and Newcastle: the GW5 direction for both sides

Chelsea's front three all clear four expected points for Brentford away, and nothing about this week changes that shortlist. Hold what you own instead of reacting to one shared afternoon. Belloumi's number drops for Newcastle away; enjoy the thirteen points, don't expect an instant repeat on the road against a tougher back line.
