Nine points. Take them.
Haaland captain: 18 points. Triple Captain: 27. You might have spent Saturday waiting for the second goal, but a goal, 90 minutes and three bonus points is a return worth banking. A good captain pick does not owe us a hat-trick.
Haaland finished on nine points against 8 expected. Semenyo supplied the assist, while the clean sheet rewarded managers who went for City's defence. If you doubled up at the back, this was the return you were after.

Gvardiol added two bonus points to his clean sheet, Guehi added one, and Donnarumma's three saves earned an extra point. Semenyo's assist put him almost exactly on his projection. Cherki, Anderson, Enzo and Ndiaye all finished on three: plenty of the ball, but no attacking return.
Foden owners get the dreaded one-pointer
Foden was expected to score 5.6 points but finished on one. He replaced Cherki in the 66th minute and got just 24 minutes to make something happen. For owners with a return sitting first on the bench, that cameo was particularly painful.
He managed 0.50 xG in that cameo, so there was a chance to rescue the afternoon. Before you buy or hold him for the derby, check the midweek selection and his likely playing time. A cheaper City shirt only helps your squad if the player inside it gets enough time on the pitch.
The clean sheet was harder work than 78% possession suggests
Coventry matched City's three big chances and put three shots on target. City's clean sheet was valuable, but it depended on saves and missed chances as well as control of the ball. That matters when weighing up a defensive double-up for a tougher fixture.
Expected goals: where Coventry found a way in
Coventry produced 0.62 xG from set plays, roughly half their total. That is the warning to take into GW4: City can dominate the ball and still give an opponent a way back through dead balls. For Coventry, three big chances at the Etihad offer more encouragement than another zero on the scoreboard suggests. Brighton at home is worth watching before writing off their attack completely.
GW4: hold the returns, rethink the double-up
City visit Old Trafford on Sunday 13 September, with Porto in the Champions League first. Look at who starts in midweek, who gets an early rest and whether any injury changes the weekend picture before making your transfers.
- Haaland: hold. Reassess the armband against the GW4 alternatives rather than treating Coventry's fixture rating as permanent.
- Gvardiol, Guehi and Dias: a clean sheet is a good return, not a reason to buy a second City defender for an away derby. Compare the whole defence before spending a transfer.
- Semenyo: an assist and a full match strengthen the hold case. Check his latest numbers against the midfielder you would actually replace.
- Foden and Cherki: minutes first. Neither blank justifies an automatic -4, but neither is a buy purely because City won.
- O'Reilly: zero minutes make team news the priority. Check his availability before deciding whether your bench can cover him.
