Bogle 14, Vuskovic 12: The Defenders Had All the Fun

In this guide: Bogle's perfectly timed substitution, Vuskovic's twelve-pointer and a Brighton 1-1 Leeds draw that paid the defenders who scored. We have both starting XIs' expected and actual points, the chances behind the blanks and the GW4 case for keeping faith with Calvert-Lewin.
- Bogle: 14 points. He scored after fifteen minutes and went off before Brighton equalised, keeping his clean-sheet points.
- Vuskovic: 12 points. He headed in De Cuyper's delivery in the 71st minute.
- Leeds created 2.76 xG and five big chances despite having only a third of the ball.
- Calvert-Lewin blanked with 0.83 xG. Brighton's Gross had 0.59 xG and also finished on one point.

Bogle left at exactly the right time for owners
Bogle scored from a corner, with Tanaka supplying the assist, then came off in the 61st minute with Leeds still leading. He had reached sixty FPL minutes. His clean-sheet points were safe when Vuskovic equalised ten minutes later. Add six points for the goal and three bonus, subtract a booking, and you get fourteen. Sometimes the substitution you normally dread does you a favour.
Vuskovic had to earn his haul differently. His headed equaliser brought six points, two bonus followed, and his defensive work added another two. That made twelve without a clean sheet. De Cuyper supplied the corner and returned four; Dunk reached five through defensive contribution and bonus. There were several ways to get paid at the back here.

Brighton had the ball. Leeds had the bigger chances.
Twenty shots and 67% possession make Brighton look the dominant side at a glance. Leeds' chances tell a different story. All ten of their shots came from inside the box, five were big chances and four of those went begging. For Leeds attackers, that is a much better afternoon to take into your transfer thinking than the single goal suggests.
Set plays supplied 1.91 of Leeds' 2.76 xG. Both goals in the match came from corners. That is a reason to look at the players getting on the end of deliveries, but also a reason to resist calling Leeds a relentless open-play attack on this evidence alone. Their open-play xG was 0.85; Brighton's was 1.30.
Calvert-Lewin's one point hides a better afternoon
Calvert-Lewin had 0.83 xG in 72 minutes. The booking and blank hurt, but he was getting chances. Newcastle and Palace are both at home next. There is enough here to hold rather than sell because Bogle got the goal instead.
Gross had 0.59 xG for Brighton and Kostoulas 0.44. Neither returned. Those are worth checking alongside the player stats before moving an attacker out for a defender who has just scored. Bogle's own 0.90 xG was excellent, but his clean-sheet points also depended on the timing of his substitution. That part of the fourteen is a bonus you cannot plan to repeat.
GW4: Coventry for Brighton, Newcastle for Leeds

Vuskovic and De Cuyper are level on rounded expected points for Coventry away. De Cuyper costs less and supplied the set-piece assist here; Vuskovic played ninety and added defensive contribution points. Those are useful differences when picking the one who suits your budget. Brighton then host Arsenal, so check where your other defenders play in GW5 before buying.
Bogle has two home matches before Arsenal away in GW6. He is worth a look at £4.5m, but today's fourteen should not make him an automatic starter in every fixture.
