Bosnia Beat Qatar And Wait On The Third-Place Table

25 June 2026

World Cup Fantasy Demon Notes Bosnia Qatar guide card

Bosnia did the job. It was not a pretty dominance game on the numbers, but tournament football does not care. Bosnia beat Qatar 3-1, finished third in Group B on four points, and now wait to see if that is enough for the round of 32.

Kerim Alajbegovic scored a brilliant opener, Qatar replied through Hassan Al Haydos before half-time, and Ermin Mahmic came off the bench to settle it late. Qatar are out. Bosnia are very much alive.

Here are the Demon Notes from Bosnia 3-1 Qatar: the young scorer, the Dzeko leadership, Bosnia's third-place route and whether any of them are worth touching for the qualification booster.

Bosnia 3-1 Qatar

  • Goals: Kerim Alajbegovic, Sultan Al-Brake own goal, Ermin Mahmic; Hassan Al Haydos for Qatar
  • Key story: Bosnia finished third in Group B with four points and are waiting on the best third-placed table
  • Qatar story: Qatar finished bottom of Group B and are eliminated
  • Fantasy story: Alajbegovic and Mahmic are cheap point-scorers, but Bosnia's underlying numbers were not convincing
  • Round of 32: Bosnia could still advance, but the draw would likely be difficult

Demon Notes

  • Bosnia won 3-1 despite losing the xG battle 0.64 to 0.77. That screams clinical rather than dominant.
  • Alajbegovic (£4.2m) is a lovely tournament story and his goal was a proper highlight-reel strike. Fantasy-wise, do not chase the points unless the role is clear.
  • Mahmic (£4.2m) has two tournament goals now, but a bench role makes him hard to trust unless team news changes.
  • Qatar pushed more than the scoreline suggests. They created three big chances, which is why Bosnia defenders are not qualification-booster material for me.
  • Dzeko (£6.1m) still matters to how Bosnia play, but for fantasy he is more of a minutes-and-matchup question than a must-have.

Qualification And Round Of 32 Angle

Bosnia are not officially safe in the same way Switzerland and Canada are. Four points should give them a strong chance in the best third-placed table, but they still need the rest of the groups to fall kindly.

For the qualification booster, I would be careful. If Bosnia sneak through, they are likely to face a group winner or a stronger runner-up. That makes them a poor banker team unless the draw somehow opens up.

Verdict: Bosnia are a great story, not a booster core. Maybe one cheap punt if the draw is kinder than expected. Qatar are done.
